Local Status : Resident (SMP Status 3) Distribution and abundance : Local Habitats : Grassland, especially on chalky soils Flight Period : Single-brooded; July, also possible second brood in September Larval foodplants : Common Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) and Spear Thistle (Cirsium vulgare), in flowers and fruiting heads Morley's Final Catalogue : By no means rare, on both the coast and Breek: Several at light in Ipswich during July 1895-1901 (Mly, Pyett) ; bred at Waldringfield in 1933 (Wlr); Blaxhall (Hkr); Southwold and one at Aldeburgh (Ctw). Near Timworth in 1911 (Nurse), Tuddenham (Crf), Brandon (Barrett), Cavenham 1936 (Gd). Wingspan details : Wingspan 20-27mm Identification
